ABOUT THE SHOW:
In this faithful, unsentimental dramatization of the first part of the beloved classic, Marilla Cuthbert and her brother Matthew request an orphan boy to help work their farm. They are mistakenly sent the high-spirited, red-head named Anne Shirley. Knowing they are ill-equipped to raise a child, Marilla attempts to send Anne back to the orphanage. With Matthew lobbying to keep Anne, Marilla ultimately agrees to let her stay at Green Gables. The trials and tribulations Marilla fears come to pass as Anne insults Marilla’s best friend, “loses” Marilla’s most cherished brooch, smacks the school’s prize pupil with a slate, and inadvertently gets her best friend, Diana, drunk on cherry cordial. She also turns out to be bright, charming, resourceful and full of irresistible imagination. Marilla and Matthew admit she is the best thing that ever happened to them, and Anne comes to understand she is a loved, worthwhile person.

WE WILL TAKE WALK INS AND ALL ATTENDING WILL BE SEEN, even if the sign-up is full.

Character Breakdown:
Anne Shirley-
An imaginative, talkative, and intelligent orphan with bright red hair. Anne is creative, emotional, and determined to find a place where she belongs. Although she often gets into trouble because of her impulsiveness, she grows into a kind, responsible, and compassionate young woman.
Gender: female
Age: 14 to 25
Marilla Cuthbert-
Matthew’s practical, strict, and hardworking sister. At first she is stern and reserved, but Anne’s warmth gradually softens her. Marilla becomes a loving mother figure who teaches Anne responsibility while learning to express her own affection.

Matthew Cuthbert-
Marilla’s quiet, shy, and gentle brother. He has difficulty speaking to people but immediately forms a special bond with Anne. Patient and kind, Matthew supports Anne’s dreams and gives her confidence through his unconditional love.

Diana Berry-
Anne’s loyal best friend. Diana is cheerful, caring, and dependable. Though less imaginative than Anne, she accepts Anne’s uniqueness and remains a faithful companion through many adventures.

A bright, confident, and good-natured classmate of Anne. After teasing her by calling her “Carrots,” he spends years trying to earn her forgiveness. Gilbert matures into a respectful, hardworking young man and becomes Anne’s academic rival and friend.

Mrs. Barry-
Diana’s strict and protective mother. She is cautious about Anne because of Anne’s reputation for getting into mischief. Over time, she comes to recognize Anne’s good heart and eventually accepts her friendship with Diana.

Mrs. Lynde-
Avonlea’s outspoken, curious, and opinionated neighbor. She is known for speaking her mind and often gossiping, but she genuinely cares about her community. She grows to admire Anne’s character despite their rocky first meeting.

Mrs. Blewett-
A harsh, demanding woman who wants to adopt Anne mainly to help care for her many children. She represents the difficult future Anne might have faced if the Cuthberts had not kept her.

A young, inexperienced schoolteacher in Avonlea. He is somewhat self-important and immature, often showing favoritism and poor judgment, but he represents the strict social expectations Anne has to navigate.
